Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account or using Babchess (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must review and consent to these Terms on your behalf, and they accept these Terms with you.

2. Eligibility & accounts

You must provide accurate information, including your date of birth, when registering. Children under 13 require verifiable parental consent before using interactive features. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. One person may not maintain multiple accounts to abuse the Service.

3. Acceptable use & community rules

Because our community includes children, the following are prohibited: harassment, bullying, hate speech, sexual content, attempts to contact other users off-platform, sharing personal information, cheating (including engine assistance in rated play), and any unlawful activity. We provide reporting and moderation tools and may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these rules.

4. Subscriptions & payments

Some features require a paid subscription. Pricing, billing cycles, trials, and renewal terms are shown at checkout and processed by our payment provider. Purchases made by a minor must be authorized by a parent or guardian. Refund and cancellation terms are described in Section 5 below.

5. Refunds & cancellation

For web subscriptions purchased through our payment provider (Stripe): if you request a refund within 14 days of your first subscription charge, we will refund that charge in full, consistent with applicable statutory withdrawal rights, including the EU right of withdrawal. Refunds are issued to the original payment method used for the charge. Renewal charges are not refunded automatically; to avoid a renewal, cancel before your next billing date. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the current billing period. Where a discount or promotional code was applied, any refund is calculated based on the amount actually paid.

For subscriptions purchased through Apple's App Store, refunds are governed by Apple's refund policy and procedures. We are unable to issue refunds for App Store purchases directly; please request a refund through Apple.

6. User content

You retain ownership of content you submit (such as forum posts), and you grant us a limited license to host and display it to operate the Service. You are responsible for content you submit and confirm you have the right to share it.

7. Intellectual property

Babchess, its characters, artwork, lessons, and software are owned by Babchess, LLC or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. You may not copy, resell, or create derivative works except as permitted by law.

8. Disclaimers & liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including statutory consumer rights. [INSERT JURISDICTION-SPECIFIC LIABILITY LIMITS]

9. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or to protect users, especially children. Parents may request termination of a child's account.

10. Governing law & contact
