Fork
A fork is a tactic where one piece attacks two or more pieces simultaneously.
Types of Forks
- Knight fork: Most common and powerful (L-shaped movement is hard to predict)
- Pawn fork: Attacking both diagonals with a pawn
- Bishop/Rook/Queen fork: Long-range piece forks
Key Principle
Since the opponent can't save both pieces, you win at least one.
Knight forks are especially dangerous because the L-shaped movement is hard to anticipate.
Knight fork! The knight can attack the Queen (d8) and Rook (h8) simultaneously from f7.

Pawn fork! When the c4 pawn advances, it attacks both b5 and d5.
